The ARC ROPE Writing Assistant streamlines the drafting of Australian Research Council (ARC) grant applications. It prepares detailed, well-substantiated content for Research Opportunity and Performance Evidence (ROPE) sections, using first-person or third-person pronouns according to user requirements. By completing steps set out in the ARC ROPE Writing Assistant, users will obtain draft texts on contributions to field(s) (informed by user-supplied research outputs' abstracts and the ARC's Grants Dataset), research impact (leveraging user-supplied Overton and Altmetric data), succinct mentoring and leadership narratives (based on user-supplied Google Scholar data, ORCID profile, and the ARC's Grants Dataset), research outputs' context (incorporating user-supplied SciVal and Google Scholar data), and precise annotations for career-best research outputs (also informed by abstracts), complete with output-level bibliometrics and altmetrics from various sources. By transforming complex bibliometric and altmetric data into coherent narratives, the assistant helps researchers save time, enhance narrative quality, and support compliance with ARC guidelines and prevailing sector norms.

Redeem a voucher
To use ARC ROPE Writing Assistant effectively, users should have, or support researchers who have, a verifiable research track record, including on ORCiD (essential), as well as the ability to retrieve evidence of research performance from four specific bibliometrics and altmetrics suppliers: Google Scholar (essential), plus access to Altmetric Explorer, Overton, and SciVal (recommended).
At a minimum, users should have a Google Scholar profile with 10 or more cited research outputs. The biogrpahy field should be populated on ORCiD. SciVal data are most informative when users have a sufficiently large track record of Scopus-indexed outputs—typically 20 or more—so that field-weighted citation impact (FWCI) values are not disproportionately affected by individual outliers. Overton and Altmetric Explorer are most useful where outputs have attracted news, patent, and/or policy mentions, as these sources enable the assistant to narrativise extra-academic engagement, outcomes, and impact.
